Presentation of Indian Classical Musical Instruments to Schools & University of Ruhuna in Southern Province


Music is an integral part of the shared heritage between India & Sri Lanka. To sustain & encourage the abiding interest in Hindustani music among the Schools & University in Southern Sri Lanka, Consulate General of India, Hambantota presented 104 Indian Classical musical instruments worth Rs. 3,219,020 received from ICCR, New Delhi to several Schools and Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Matara in Southern Province. These instruments included Veena, Sitar, Tabla, Sarod, Tanpura etc.

The Schools from Galle included Richmond College, Siridhamma College, & Anuladevi College. Schools from Matara district Included the Beverly Tamil School, Deniyaya ,Hulandawa Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, Piatabaddara ,Handford Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, Deniyaya & St. Matthew's Bilingual School , Deniyaya. The instruments were presented to the school principals by Shri Prem Kumar Nair, the Consul General of India, Hambantota. The Principals, Teachers & Students deeply appreciated the contribution of Consulate General of India, Hambantota to their institutions for developing their students’ talent in music.
