74th Independence Day Celebrations at Consulate General of India, Hambantota
The Consulate General of India, Hambantota in Sri Lanka celebrated the 74th Independence Day of India on Saturday i.e. August 15, 2020 at the premises of the Consulate. Consul General, Mr. Dipin P.R, unfurled the Indian flag at 9.00 a.m.at the premises of the Consulate and read out the Address to the Nation on the eve of the Independence Day by the Hon´ble President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind. Consular General Dipin.P.R planted the Na tree (Mesua ferrea) associated with enlightenment of Maitree Buddha at Consulate General of India, Hambantota premises.
2. About 60 Guests, including Mr. W.H. Karunarathne – District Secretary of Hambantota, Ms. M.K.A.A. Amali – Municipal Commissioner, Hambantota,Dr. Suranga Ubeysekara – Director, Hambantota Hospital, Dr. P.B. Chandimarathne – Director, Chamal Rajapaksha Ayurveda Research Hospital, Hambantota, Mr. Jagath Palihakkara – Deputy Inspector General, Hambantota/Matara, Capt. A.K.R. Athukorala - Commanding Officer, SLNS Kawantissa, Hambantota, Grp. Captain Thushara Sirimana - Commanding Officer, Ari Lanka Air Force Unit, Weerawila, Brig. A.H.L.G. Amarapala – Brigadier Commander, Army Camp, Weerawila, Prof. Sujeewa Amarasena - Vice Chancellor, University of Ruhuna, Matara, Capt. Ravi Jayawickrama - Chief Executive Officer, Hambantota International Port Services (Pvt) Ltd, Municipal Council Members local Government officials, local police officials, Indian Nationals friends of India, etc. participated in the flag hoisting ceremony.
3. Simultaneously to the Celebration, Consul General planted 10 tree saplings along with school children at St. Mary's National College, Hambantota.
