Photo Exhibition “India Through Sri Lankan Eyes” at Weherahena Poorvarama Raja Maha Viharaya in Matara

On the occasion of Unduwap Poya Day on 14th December 2024, Consulate General of India, Hambantota, organized an exhibition titled “India Through Sri Lankan Eyes” at the historic Weherahena Poorvarama Raja Maha Viharaya in Matara.

2.       The exhibition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Sunil Handunneththi, Minister of Industries & Entrepreneurship Development and Consul General Mr. Harvinder Singh in the esteemed presence of Chief Priest Ven. Kegalle Rathanasara Thero. Mr. Ganesh Amarasinghe, District Secretary, Matara and Prof. Saman Chandana Ediriweera, Former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna were also present at the inaugural event.  The exhibition will remain open to public till 16th December 2024 at the temple premises.

3.       This unique exhibition showcases India’s profound Buddhist heritage through a captivating series of photographs. These images vividly portray significant moments from the life of Lord Buddha and the grandeur of renowned Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India in the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Ladakh, Andhra Pradesh, and Kashmir. Photographs portraying splendid beauty of various other parts of India are also a part of the exhibition.

4.       The Consulate General of India, Hambantota, has been organizing such exhibitions on every Poya Day at different Buddhist temples across the Southern Province and Monaragala District. These exhibitions have received overwhelming response and appreciation from local communities.

5.       This initiative continues to emphasize the deep cultural ties and shared heritage between India and Sri Lanka, fostering a stronger bond between the two nations. By celebrating our common Buddhist legacy, the exhibition reaffirms the enduring connection and collective commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties.
