On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of India's Independence Day, CGI Hambantota organized a captivating Bihu Dance Performance titled "Rhythms of Assam" on 16^th August 2024 at Karapitiya Medical Faculty Auditorium.  This mesmerizing event featured an ICCR-sponsored troupe led by Mr. Ranjit Kumar Gogoi.

Mr. A.U. Welarathne, Acting Chief Secretary of the Southern Province, graced the event as the Guest of Honor. Joining him were Mr. Vidura Kariyawasam, Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries; Senior Professor Thilak Weeraratne, Dean of the Medical Faculty at the University of Ruhuna; Dr. H.P. Karunawathi, Commissioner of the Southern Provincial Department of Ayurveda; along with other distinguished figures from the local government.

The performance garnered an overwhelmingly positive response from the local audience, who were enthralled by the dancers' exceptional skill and artistry. Attendees expressed their gratitude to the Government of India for providing such an enriching cultural experience. The event not only entertained but also educated the audience about Assam's rich heritage. The performance was enjoyed by an audience of over 1,000 people.
