70th Republic Day of India celebrations in
Southern Province, Sri Lanka
The
Consulate General of India, Hambantota in Sri Lanka celebrated the 70th
Republic Day of India on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the consulate premises in
Hambantota. The Consul General, Mr. Prem Kumar Nair, unfurled the Indian flag
at 9.00 a.m. He read out the address to the nation by the Hon´ble President of
India.

About 40 Guests, including, Deputy Mayor & Municipal council members of
Hambantota, Commander of Naval Base Hambantota, Representative from District
Secretary's office, Senior Government officials, local police officials,
Chairman of Lanka Salt Limited , other officials and dignitaries participated
in the flag hoisting ceremony. Refreshments were served after the event.

In the evening, to commemorate India’s 70th Republic Day, a reception was hosted by Consul General of India at Jetwing
Light House Hotel in Galle, which was attended by about 80 guests including Mr.
U.G.D Ariyathilaka, Hon’ble Minister of
Agriculture and Agrarian development, Southern Provincial Council, Mr.
Chandima Rasaputhra, Hon’ble Minister of Education and Land Development,
Southern Provincial council , Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries (SP),Secretary,
Ministry of Sports, Youth and Cultural Affairs (SP), District Secretary,
Matara, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Deans and heads of various faculties of Ruhuna
University, Municipal Commissioners from Matara & Galle, Members of Chamber
of Commerce & Industries from Galle & Matara Chairman & CEO of
Lanka Salt Limited, and other prominent local persons.
