77th Independence Day of India celebrations in Southern
Province, Sri Lanka
Consulate General of India,
Hambantota celebrated the 77th Independence Day of India
on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at the Consulate premises in Hambantota with great
patriotic zeal and fervor. The event commenced with the hoisting of the
National Flag by Consul General Shri Dipin P.R followed by the singing of the
National Anthem. Thereafter, the Consul General read out the text of Hon’ble
President Smt. Droupadi Murmu’ s address to the nation on the eve of the
Independence Day.

Many distinguished personalities, including, The Clergy, District
Secretary, General Officer Commanding of 12th Division at Hambantota,
Commanding officer of Weeravila Air force Base, , Assistant Superintendent of
Police, Hambantota, Head Quarters
Inspector of Hambantota, Senior Government officials, officials from
Hambantota Chamber of Commerce, representatives of banks, hospitals etc. participated in the flag
hoisting ceremony.
3. This year’s Independence Day
celebration is a culmination of ‘AzadiKaAmritMahotsav’ initiative, a global
campaign to commemorate 75 years of a progressive and self-reliant India. Since
2022, India has embarked on a journey of 25 years of India’s transformative
growth – ‘AmritKaal’ - to make India a developed nation by 2047. Members of the
Indian community enthusiastically celebrated this Independence Day by participating
in the ‘HarGharTiranga’ campaign, as well as by recounting the stories of
growing up in India and paying tributes to the motherland under the
‘MeriMaatiMeraDesh’ campaign.
