Bharatnatyam Workshop at Hambantota &
Monaragala Districts.
Bharatanatyam
is a major form of Indian classical dance that originated in the state of Tamil
Nadu. This pre-eminent Indian classical dance form is presumably the oldest
classical dance tradition of India and is regarded as mother of many other
Indian classical dance forms. Bharatnatyam is a popular dance form in Sri Lanka
and being a part of Sri Lankan Oriental dance syllabus a large number of
teachers & students practice/learn Bharatnatyam in the country.
02. Consulate General of India, Hambantota
in collaboration with Department of Education. Southern province organized a
Bharatanatyam workshop for dance teachers of Hambantota District at Tangalle
Maha Vidyalaya on 3rd March 2023. Another special session was organized in
collaboration with Monaragala Zonal Education office for the teachers of
Monaragala District on 24th March 2023 at Monaragala Buddhi Mandiraya. The Work
shop was conducted by Mrs. Sruthi Sasi M.A in Bharatnatyam from the Tamil
University Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu India.
03. The participants appreciated the
effort of Consulate General of India, Hambantota for organizing such a workshop
providing theoretical & practical knowledge about Indian dance tradition to
teachers of Southern Province & Monaragala District.
