Carnatic Veena Recital
& Kathak Dance Performance
Consulate
General of India, Hambantota organized a “Carnatic Veena Recital led by Smt.
Yoga Vandana J & Group & Kathak Dance Performance led By Smt. Jayashree
Acharya & Group”, to commemorate India’s 71st Republic Day. Performances were held on 22nd January
2020, at Hall De Galle, Galle on 23rd January 2020 at Main Hall of Pitabaddara Maha
Vidyalaya & on 24th January 2020 at Rabindranath Tagore Memorial
Auditorium, University of Ruhuna, Matara.
The local
hospitality for the troupe for Galle & Matara event was provided by
Ministry of Sports Youth and Cultural Affairs, Southern Provincial Council with
venue support by Pitabaddara Maha Vidyalaya, Pitabaddara and University of
Ruhuna, Matara.
The event at
Galle was graced by Mr. Prem Kumar Nair, Consul General of
India-Hambantota , Mr. A.U Welarathne, Secretary to the Hon’ble Governor of
Southern Province, Director of Galle Heritage Foundation Mr. H.S Jayalakshmi
and Mr. Parakrama Dahanayake and other Galle Municipal Council Members . The
event was witnessed by about 500 people.
The event
at the Matara was attended Senior Prof. Sujeewa
Amarasena, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Prof. Saman Chandana,
Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Matara and the Deans and
heads of various faculties of the University. . The event was witnessed by
about 700 people.
The event
at Pitabaddara was graced by Former Minister of Sports Youth & Cultural
Affairs of Southern Province Mr. Weerasumana Weerasinghe and Many other guests The programme was witnessed by over 400
people.
The Two
and half hour performance by the Carnatic Veena Group & Kathak Dance Group
kept the audience spellbound at all the venues. They enjoyed the programme and
appreciated the efforts of Consulate General of India, Hambantota in bringing
such rare and unique music and dance form to Sri Lanka
