India’s Constitution Day celebrations in Southern Province
India’s ‘Constitution Day’ was
observed through a series of events organized by Consulate General of India, Hambantota
on 26 November 2022. The special day marked the adoption of the Indian
Constitution on 26 November 1949.
2. To mark the occasion, the Consulate also organized a
special lecture on the theme of “Constitutional values and fundamental
principles of the Indian Constitution” & a photo exhibition on the theme
“The Making of Indian Constitution” on 25th November 2022 at the Auditorium of
Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, University of Ruhuna. On 26th
November Consul General and officials of the Consulate read the preamble of the
Constitution which professes guiding principles of India.
3. The Photo exhibition was inaugurated by Consul General Mr. Dipin P.R
along with Vice Chancellor, senior professor Sujeewa Amarasena, Deputy Vice
Chancellor Prof. Saman Chandana & Dean of the Faculty of Humanities &
Social Sciences Prof. Upali Pannialage.
The special session was conducted by Dr. Sampath Rajapaksha, Senior
lecturer, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Science,
University of Kelaniya. Students & lecturers from Department of Public
policy attended the special session.
4. Following the adoption of the Indian Constitution on 26
November 1949, it came into effect on 26 January 1950. Indians across the world
celebrate ‘Republic Day’ every year with great fervor to mark this momentous
occasion. The Indian Constitution, which has drawn from best practices and
procedures of various countries, has been the main anchor and basis for
decision making for policy makers of India.
