India - Sri Lanka Friendship Walk at Hambantota
As a part of celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence (Azadi
Ka Amrit Mahotsav) & 74th Independence Day of Sri Lanka which
falls on 4th February 2022, Consulate General of India, Hambantota organized
“India – Sri Lanka Friendship
Walk” on 1st February 2022 at Hambantota.
02. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative
of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive
India and the glorious history of her people, culture and achievements. India’s
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 12th March 2021 formally
launched India@75 celebrations at Sabarmathi
Ashram in Gujarat, 75 weeks before 15th August 2022.
03. The purpose of the walk was celebrating
the Independence of India & Sri Lanka & years of friendship between
both countries. The event was flagged off by the District Secretary of Hambantota
Mr. Priyantha Sumanasekara at the Hambantota central bus stand and ended at the
Consulate Premises. Many distinguished
personalities, including, Deputy Mayor & Municipal Council Members of
Hambantota, Senior Government officials, officials from Hambantota District Chamber
of Commerce and many other prominent local personalities were among the
distinguished guests who participated in the event.
