University of Ruhuna signs
MoU with the Cochin University of Science and Technology
On 15th June 2023, Cochin
University of Science and Technology and the University of Ruhuna signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of marine science and
technology giving further impetus to the existing academic partnership between
India and Southern Province of Sri Lanka. The MoU was signed by Senior
Professor (Chair) Sujeewa Amarasena, the Vice Chancellor of the University of
Ruhuna, and Professor (Dr.) P.G Sankaran, Vice Chancellor of the Cochin
University of Science and Technology at the University of Ruhuna Premises.
02. Mr. Dipin P. R. Consul General of India, Hambantota was present
on the occasion to witness the MoU signing ceremony. Prof. Dr. S Bijoy Nandan,
Professor of Department of Marine Biology, Microbiology & Biochemistry was
accompanying the Vice Chancellor to represent the Cochin University of Science
& Technology. Representing the University of Ruhuna, Prof. Saman Chandana,
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. K H M A Deepananda, Dean Faculty of Fisheries and
Marine Sciences & Technology, Dr. Terney Pradeep Kumara, Director, Centre
for International Affairs (CINTA) and other dignitaries were present.
03. The collaboration between the two institutions will pursue
possibilities of joint teaching, learning opportunities and conducting research
in both Marine Science & Technology. It will open up many opportunities to
exchange researchers, employees, students, transfer of
students, exchange of scholarly and pedagogical materials, joint
research, technical assistants and/or training, curricula development
between two Universities.
